What is 5g? 5G is the 5th generation mobile network. It is a new global network that came out after 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G. 5G is a kind of technology that connects everyone and everything together under one network. This higher performance and improved efficiency allow new user experiences, connecting new industries, and changing the way the world connects and communicates.
What underlying technologies make up 5G?
5G is based off one underlying technology called OFDM.
OFDM stands for Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing.
This is a method that modulates a digital signal across different channels to reduce interference.
5G is not only designed to deliver faster but also expand into other new service areas like
mission-critical communications and connecting the massive loT.
Differences between the previous generations of mobile networks and 5G The previous generations of mobile networks were 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G. 1G delivered analog voice in the 1980s. 2G introduced digital voice in the early 1990s. 3G brought mobile data in the early 2000s. 4G LTE introduced the era of mobile broadband in the 2010s. Compared to the previous networks, 5G has higher speeds, superior reliability, negligible latency, and next-generation user experiences.
